Question 1

What is the difference between the Canon EOS R1 and the EOS R3?

Accepted Answer

The Canon EOS R1 is the flagship model for the EOS R System and offers enhanced performance for stills and images compared to the Canon EOS R3. The EOS R1 features a slightly improved 24.2-megapixel (rather than 24.1-megapixel) full-frame back-illuminated stacked sensor. It has a new imaging platform called ‘Accelerated Capture’, which incorporates the existing DIGIC X processor from the EOS R3 and the newly developed DIGIC Accelerator processor to support the processing of high quantities of data and Deep Learning technologies. A pre-continuous shooting function now captures up to 20 frames. The camera supports the same 6K 60p RAW or 4K 120p footage, with 12-bit RAW recording internally to the memory card.

Other notable improvements include a 40% reduction of rolling shutter when compared to the EOS R3, newly added ‘Action Priority’ mode, improved eye control AF that’s twice the level of the EOS R3, up to 8.5 stops of image stabilisation as opposed to 8, enhanced flash sync speeds up to 1/400th of a second, improved white balance and image exposure, and a newly designed weather-resistant body.

Question 2

What is the battery life like on the Canon EOS R1?

Accepted Answer

When shooting with the LCD screen, the battery allows you to take approximately 1330 shots (at 23°C) and approximately 700 shots (at 23°C). It also offers power-saving options, turning off after a selectable interval of inactivity to preserve the battery.
