Question 1

How much does the Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S weigh, and what are its dimensions?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S weighs approximately 2,735g and measures 128mm in diameter and 353.5mm in length. Its internal zoom mechanism keeps barrel length and centre of gravity consistent throughout the 120-300mm focal range. This prevents weight-distribution changes when adjusting composition, supporting more consistent handling during handheld sports, action, and wildlife photography.

Question 2

What filter sizes does the Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S support?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S supports 112mm front-mounted filters and 46mm rear screw-in filters using the supplied filter holder. Front-mounted filters offer exposure and reflection control, while the rear holder accepts compatible 46mm screw-in filters. The optional Nikon Slip-in Circular Polarisation Filter C-PL460 provides an additional filtration option.

Question 3

Does the Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S maintain its f2.8 aperture when using the built-in teleconverter?

Accepted Answer

The lens maintains a constant f2.8 maximum aperture throughout its native 120-300mm zoom range. Engaging the built-in 1.4x teleconverter extends the focal range to approximately 170-420mm and changes the maximum effective aperture to f4. This provides additional telephoto reach without changing lenses, though the smaller effective aperture reduces the light reaching the camera sensor. Photographers can adjust shutter speed or ISO sensitivity accordingly when working with moving subjects.

Question 4

Can the Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S be used with external teleconverters?

Accepted Answer

The lens is compatible with the separately available Nikon Z 1.4x Teleconverter and Nikon Z 2x Teleconverter. External teleconverters provide additional options for extending telephoto reach. This lens also has a built-in 1.4x teleconverter, extending the native 120-300mm range to about 170-420mm.

Question 5

What is the minimum focusing distance of the Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon Z 120-300mm f2.8 TC VR S has a minimum focusing distance of 0.98m, letting photographers focus on subjects at relatively close range. Combined with its telephoto focal range, this provides added flexibility for photographing nearby wildlife or isolating details in a composition.
